Frequently asked questions
What is a 3D/4D ultrasound?
A 3D ultrasound is your baby seen in 3 dimensions rather than the standard 2D black and white ultrasound. 3D/4D is seen in color. The 4D image is your 3D baby in motion.
What is the difference between a keepsake ultrasound and an ultrasound I would receive at my doctor's office?
The keepsake ultrasound is set in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere that focuses on you and baby without the diagnostic aspect such as you have in a clinic. There is ample room to bring your family and friends and everyone is welcome.
Are 3D/4D ultrasounds safe?
There is no scientific data that shows any evidence of harm to you or your baby during a 2D,3D or 4D ultrasound. Ultrasounds have been used in pregnancy for decades. It is important though to have a trained person such as a certified ultrasound technician to follow all the guidelines to ensure you and baby are safe.
Will a doctor or radiologist read my ultrasound?
This is strictly a keepsake ultrasound. It is not diagnostic therefore there will not be a diagnostic reading provided. This ultrasound is not a substitute for medical care and you should be under the care of a physician before obtaining one.
Will insurance cover my ultrasound?
Insurance will not cover your ultrasound because this is not a diagnostic exam.
How far along should I be for a 3D/4D ultrasound?
The best time to view your baby in 3D/4D is between 26-32 weeks. Before 26 weeks baby does not have enough fat to see those cute chubby cheeks and after 32 weeks baby starts to run out of room which makes it hard to find enough space around the baby to obtain a 3D image.
Should I have a full bladder for my ultrasound?
You should always come in with a full bladder. You should also drink plenty of water several days prior to your scan. This helps increase the amount of amniotic fluid which in turn helps to obtain a better 3D image.
What if you can't obtain any 3D images at my appointment?
If I am not able to obtain good 3d images you will be rescheduled for a re-scan at no additional charge. Re-scans must be scheduled within 2 weeks of your original appointment.
